Home Office Spent A Quarter Of A Million Pounds On Deportation Flights That Never Departed From The Airport

The Guardian revealed the Home Office spent £268,000 on charter flights to deport people over the last three months, even though none of the planes actually left the United Kingdom. Nearly 2,000 of the 12,000 migrants who are forcibly removed from the UK each year are placed on planes which are privately chartered by the Home Office. The practice has been in place for more than fifteen years to deport migrants back to Albania, Ghana, Nigeria, and Pakistan. Charter flights to Jamaica were paused after the Windrush scandal rocked Downing Street, but controversially resumed earlier this year.
