Nigerians react as Ebola outbreak keeps schools shut
As the death toll from the Ebola virus continues to rise in West Africa, the Nigerian government has told all primary and secondary schools, private and public, to remain closed until 13 October rather than open next week as was planned. Education Minister Ibrahim Shekarau announced the move after education commissioners from the 36 Nigerian states met. He said in Abuja, the capital, that the school holiday extension was to ensure adequate preventive measures were taken before the academic year resumed.
